Journée Phare is an undertaking first conceived in 2008, and brought to fruition by a group of graduate students at the Université de Sherbrooke. Taking place in the Estrie region (QC), it consists of a two-day event that includes plenary sessions with distinguished guest speakers, student oral presentations and poster sessions, a dinner-conference typically featuring a guest speaker from the industry, and finally, a parting cocktail social, all in an effort to showcase the innovative scientific research being done throughout the province. The last nine editions have drawn 250 attendees on average, from all major universities in Quebec. Now firmly established as an annual event of consequence, it continues to generate keen interest among students and researchers alike.

In the past, Journée Phare’s primary focus has been to shine a light on noteworthy discoveries occurring principally within the field of Pharmacology. Since then, Journée Phare’s scope has broadened and now includes many research fields such as chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, cellular biology, and neuroscience. We now seek to draw attention to the high quality of research being done in multiple interconnecting fields across the Health Sciences, and to encourage and to foster new collaborations between key actors in these fields. We aim to bring together students, research assistants and researchers from academia and industry, from all spheres of medical research, in a friendly atmosphere that encourages discussion and stimulates networking.

It is our hope that by creating a space for the dynamic exchange of knowledge between passionate and committed researchers in the biomedical field, Journée Phare may become a large-scale exchange platform, leading to cutting edge research and breakthrough discoveries.
